Canine Physiotherapy

All Canine Physiotherapy appointments consist of detailed subjective, postural and dynamic assessments. Treatment consists of a variety of techniques including manual therapy, electrotherapy, and tailored exercise prescription.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a working dog, a competitor, or a beloved family member – a dog is the centre of the universe for anyone who owns one.

We don’t deserve them, but they do deserve the best we can provide, including healthcare!

When our dogs become poorly, it’s not always clear what the problem is, and canine physiotherapy is far from the most obvious solution.

A list of the most common orthopaedic and neurological conditions we treat include but are not limited to –

Orthopaedic
  • Elbow/hip dysplasia
  • Arthritis
  • Tendon/ligament injuries
  • Working/competition rehabilitation/conditioning
  • Conservative management
  • Cruciate disease
Neurological
  • Intervertebral disk disease (IVDD)
  • Wobblers
  • Fibrocartilaginous Embolism (FCE)
  • Degenerative myelopathy

We advise and encourage all our clients, and any owner for that matter, that if you believe your dog may be in pain or discomfort, or they are showing a noticeable behaviour change, to get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Canine physiotherapy West Sussex

All sessions typically take place at your home, where your dog is most comfortable. We begin with a ‘calming period’ where we allow your dog to settle down and become acclimatised.

During this time, we can discuss your dog’s daily activities and the current issue, then delve into their history, including any previous injuries/conditions.

We also use this as an informal way to observe your dog’s behaviour and mannerisms.

Once your animal is relaxed, we can begin the session, which consists of a manual and gait assessment.

Whilst performing this, we will observe your dog’s behaviour, posture, and reaction to handling. Following our assessment, if we deem it necessary, we will start treatment immediately.

Our typical treatments consist of manual/hands-on therapy techniques and possibly electrotherapy techniques if/as required.

Once the session is over, we will outline your dog’s condition and the appropriate course of treatment.

This might involve a course of further physiotherapy sessions, a detailed rehabilitation and treatment plan that can be continued at home, programmes to help manage more severe neurological conditions, and even hydrotherapy if we feel it would be beneficial.

We also provide advice on building dogs back up to normal walking lengths, interacting with other dogs and normal activities such as climbing up/down stairs, jumping on/off furniture, and getting in/out the car.

One thing is certain, and that is an animal should never have to suffer.

So, if you feel that your dog is unwell and may benefit from canine physiotherapy, or you just want some advice, then please do not hesitate to get in touch via our contact page.
